Venice, Italy. October 2012.

Aside from the floods, which grabbed the headlines recently and I managed to witness first-hand, here’s the Venice that most people are accustomed to.

Flooded Venice, Italy. October 2012.
After spending a week in Italy with near perfect weather, Venice welcomed this weekend visitor with a needs-must sale of wellies and a disposable rain poncho. The infamous canal city turned into a lake during my recent visit – rather challenging and exhausting, yet utterly exhilarating and photogenic.

Rather incredible that as soon as the rain stopped and knee-high water started to recede, shops, restaurants, tour guides, hotel receptions, cruise ships and even the pigeons were all business as usual. Thick-skinned those Venetians are.
